Understanding And Management Of Coronary Heart Disease And Migraine Headaches: Psychological Role

Abstract: 5 pages in length. The psychological impact upon physical disease and illness speaks to the inextricable body/mind connection; to ignore this reality is to disregard the observable association between mental anguish and such health problems as migraine headaches and coronary heart disease (CHD). Anxiety, a primary precursor of myriad physical illnesses, is a particularly harmful psychological response to situational stress; people are all too often ill-equipped to cope with and diffuse the angst that comes with being psychologically distraught and as a result soon see the detrimental outcome in the form of physiological ailments, some of which can be life-threatening. Learning how to release the buildup of tension associated with stress is one of the single-most important keys to staving off such destructive health problems as migraines and CHD when psychological stress is left unresolved.
