Personal Interviews, Major Data Collection Strategy For Criminal Research

Abstract: 3 pages in length. The intimate, face-to-face and in-depth value of personal interviews makes them an especially accurate and usable form of data gathering for research studies. This approach to qualitative methodology serves as a greater conduit between researcher and respondent because of its ability to overcome limitations inherent to written questionnaires; being far more focused in nature, personal interviews provide the opportunity for a one-on-one experience between interviewer and interviewee that brings about a deeper response level. In this way, the interviewer's greater involvement establishes him as an integral part of the measurement tool, which makes his role particularly critical in the ongoing need to avoid bias in the final results.
