The Catholic Church And Colombia

Abstract: This 10 page paper discusses the warfare in Colombia and the involvement of a segment of the Catholic Church. An overview of what the new president is attempting to do is presented first. This is followed by a discussion of the Catholic Church in Colombia beginning with a brief explanation of the Medellin Conference in the 1960s at which time a new theology was adopted in Latin America. The new Liberation Theology, adopted at that time, promotes a doctrine in opposition to the Catholic Church and it has been continually denounced by the Pope. The writer concludes that this new theology has exacerbated the problem and the institution that should have helped the country has done the exact opposite. Bibliography lists 11 sources.
