The Characteristics of Children with Language Impairment & the Impact on Performance in Mathematics

Abstract: Specific language impairment (SLI) in children have been recognized as a problematic elements in devising educational tools across disciplines, but in recent years, a number of studies have correlated SLI with problems in mathematics performance, suggesting specific issues for mathematics educators. This 5 page paper reflects the nature of this argument, underscores the correlation between the characteristics of children within language impairments and the impact of these characteristics on performance in specific mathematics tasks.
