Abstract: A 5 page paper discussing the current methods of reading instruction being used in our country. The focus of the paper is on phonics and how it is, and always will be, an essential part of reading and the methods of learning associated with it. Different methods are examined in order to illustrate just how widely used phonics is in the classroom. While phonics is an important part of learning to read it can not be used exclusively as there are far too many aspects involved in this particular area of education. Phonics are essential but any teacher must keep an open mind and be willing to use other methods in combination in order to teach our citizens to read. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
