Abstract: 7 pages in length. There are as many different ways to experience freedom as there are explanations to define it. To some, it is the chance to spend but a few precious hours each week away from the harried existence doing something of personal interest; to others, it is complete detachment from conventionality that affords an opportunity to experience wild abandon. The latter interpretation is what compels Sal & Dean of Kerouac's On the Road and Wyatt & Billy of Hopper's Easy Rider to embrace the meaning of travel as being equal with freedom and the pursuit of an elusive "something" they perceive their lives to be missing that will magically materialize at one stop or another along the route.
