Simon Starling, One Ton II/An Art Report

Abstract: A 4 page research paper that offers the writer's reaction to a particular art work. 'Objects of Value' is an exhibit that opened November 21, 2008 and runs through February 22, 2009 at the Miami Art Museum (MAM). The social context of the exhibit revolves around the questions of how society determines the value of something. 'Does it correspond to an object's intrinsic qualities or is it purely a social construction?' and what does consideration of what we value tell us about our society, our culture, ourselves (MAM). Located within the Plaza Level Gallery, one of the works on display in this exhibit is 'One Ton II' by Simon Starling, which consists of a series of five platinum/palladium prints, 25 x 33 1/2 inches each.
