The Bad News Bears: Comparing Old And New Versions

Abstract: 8 pages in length. To analyze both versions of The Bad News Bears, it is clear to see how the most significant modification between the two is that neither Walter Matthau nor Tatum O'Neal is in the lead roles. Some films fall flat when they have been remade from a classic original; while Billy Bob Thornton embraces the part of Buttermaker to a high enough degree makes this character just a little less adorably loathsome than his doddering, snarky predecessor. For the rest of it, the 2005 version follows closely in the path of the 1976 original, embellishing but a few plot details that do not alter the film's overall composition.
