Abstract: 3 pages in length. Revenge - while providing some level of cathartic value to an angry or grieving heart - truly does not offer relief in the way the sufferer might think. From a broader perspective, in fact, it only serves to exacerbate the pain brought about by the initial action since what is already done cannot be undone by a secondary act of retaliation. Revenge is driven by the need to settle a score with another for having committed an act considered unacceptable either by personal or social standards; sometimes the pain is so great that the heart is compelled to reciprocate it without heeding caution from the head: the moral element of exacting revenge carries with it a hefty price tag.
