Soap Operas And Language

Abstract: 10 pages in length. Most people watch a television program without any knowledge of how their visual/auditory senses are being manipulated by myriad signs and symbols; in other words, viewers are led down a pathway that instructs how, when and to what extent they will react depending upon the stimulus. Soap operas present some of the most appropriate examples of this type of communicative process whereby language blends with other visual and auditory cues to create an interactive premise that establishes the extent of viewers' role and involvement. This inherent connection between semiotic language and social psychology in relation to media study helps to facilitate an understanding of corresponding developments that have come about over the past several decades in response to soap opera connotation.
