It is not unreasonable to anticipate the work environment to be free of hostile interface, both physical and psychological; in fact, it should be a given that one's workplace will be devoid of any violent implications when the staff's only collective goal is to maintain company productivity. When personal issues spill over into daily relations, the atmosphere can quickly become antagonistic and intimidating for those on the receiving end. Efforts to preserve a healthy and safe workplace - which is the last setting one would expect to encounter violence - have become far more serious than a mere verbal warning, inasmuch as today's legal and ethical climate leave little room for such unacceptable behavior, most especially with one of the commonest types of violent behavior: harassment.
