"Vertumnus And Pomona" By Boucher

Abstract: 3 pages in length. Francois Boucher's artwork is particularly intriguing due in great part to the social and political changes that were occurring during this time period, a metamorphosis Boucher creatively adapted into his paintings. Restrictive devices that heretofore kept a tight leash on what and how artists could craft their talents all but disappeared during this European rebirth, with the likes of Boucher taking every opportunity to display a much more elaborate, whimsical and even daring perspective. The royal court appreciated his unique style as well, having purchased and exhibited several of his pieces. Vertumnus and Pomona oil on canvas from 1757 is a good example of how the French artist establishes a more playful attitude during this era. Bibliography lists 1 source.
