Abstract: This 5 page paper examines the paintings "Giovanni Arnolfini and His Bride" by Jan Van Eyck and "Las Meninas" by Diego Velasquez, and argues that the painters have slyly referenced their own artistry in the works, causing viewers to consider not only the paintings, but the process by which they are created.
