Abstract: In 6 pages, the author examines how the institution of slavery and a condoning society conspire to destroy the souls of the enslaved African Americans, according to Douglass' 'Narrative in the Life of Frederick Douglass.' References to Douglass' observations and personal experiences related to the education of slaves, the 'management' of the slaves by plantation masters, and Douglass' experience with abolitionists once he escaped from the South are included.
