Renaissance Poetry

Abstract: The Renaissance era produced some of the world's greatest poets. The Renaissance began as a cultural movement in the fifteenth-century. Aligned with the humanist movement, the new style depended on the Greek and Roman rhetoric as examples of literary style. The poetry of the era included romance, allegory, adventure, Neoplatonic ideas, patriotism, and Protestant morality. This 10 page paper explores the poetry of Katherine Philips, Ben Jonson, Andrew Marvell, Samuel Pepys and John Donne with an emphasis on how it relates to the Renaissance period and the styles that emerged.
