Feminism

Abstract: Feminism can be roughly defined as a movement that seeks to enhance the quality of women's lives by impacting the norms and mores of a society based on male dominance and subsequent female subordination. The means to change are defined on both the personal and political level. The feminist movement has sought to include political activism as a means to empower women toward personal change and to incorporate argumentation in the battle for equal status within the parameters of today's cultural realities. This 9 page paper examines the issue of feminist argumentation and proceeds to explore certain roles that have, within the last few decades, seen substantial gain in attaining balance between the male and female role modelization. The views of Christopher B. Jones, (1996) are pertinent to understanding the potential consequences of role adaptation of power structures and the influence of backlash theory when established norms are questioned and, or, threatened.
