Abstract: A 7 page book review that examines Gender, Politics and Islam (2002, Saliba, Allen and Howard, Eds.). This text offers a compilation of articles that were first published in Signs between 1997 and 2002, which pertain to women's experience within the boundaries of Islam and specific Arab and African cultures. The purpose of the text is to seek to counter the prevailing image of Islam, and particularly that of Islamic women, as "monolithic" (Saliba 1). Bibliography lists 3 sources.
