The Personal Is Political

Abstract: The phrase "the personal is political" was first coined by Carol Hanisch, and published in Notes from the Second Year (1970). The slogan itself was a product of feminist theory and practice. The women's movement has made many contributions to the form and structure of modern society. The concept of "personal is political" is certainly not restricted to either feminism or lesbianism but gained a great deal of popularity through these movements. This theoretical slogan also makes fundamental contributions to psychology and societal activity. It is as valid in the life of some Republicans as it may be to a radical lesbian.
