Los Angeles and Owens Valley: Over 80 Years of Water Conflict

Abstract: This 10 page paper relates the story of the conflicts between Los Angeles and Owens Valley over water rights and access to water through the Owens Valley Aqueduct, which was built to provide access to water for the city of Los Angeles. This paper provides both sides of this issue, including the charge by farmers in Owens Valley that the water distribution has depleted the valley of a necessary resource for agriculture and the argument that Los Angeles needed the water resources and built the aqueduct for that purpose.
