Benedictional of St. Ethelwold

Abstract: An 11 page research paper that examines the Benedictional of St. Ethelwold, a magnificent tenth-century Anglo-Saxon illuminated manuscript, which is the penultimate example of what is known as the Winchester style of illumination. This examination of the Benedictional looks specifically at framing devices, the placement of the illustrations within the text and the function for which the Benedictional was intended, that is, exactly what it is and how it relates to the Gospels.
