The Contemporary Suburb / A Response to Fishman

Abstract: In his work Bourgeois Utopias: The Rise and Fall of Suburbia, Robert Fishman (1989) argued that the development of a new kind of city, the technoburb, was occurring that sharply contrasted the suburban development of the 1960s and 1970s. This 8 page paper argues that while the technoburb demonstrates some different elements from earlier suburban regions, it also retains many of the central characteristics of the old suburb.
