Woman, Violence, Substance Abuse & the Family / Implications for Social Work

Abstract: As an increasing number of women with children seek services from providers in the social services community, understanding the major issues facing these women has become a significant task. Social service providers have noted three prevalent problems in female populations seeking services: domestic and interpersonal violence, substance abuse and the presence of children or pregnancies without resources to provide care. This 10 page paper provides an overview of four empirical studies conducted to consider the problems facing women seeking social services and then evaluates the implications for social work.
