Mainstream America

Abstract: A 6 page paper discussing American perceptions toward Latinos. Hispanics represent the fastest-growing ethnic group in America. Their numbers are expected to exceed that of African-Americans by 2005, and it is expected that by the year 2050 they will represent fully 25 percent of the total American population. Marketers have discovered the purchasing power of the Latino population and have made demographic "discoveries" of the family values and unity that characterize much of this group that actually represents at least 17 different subcultures. Individual contact and a diminishing language barrier are seen as keys to furthering the trend of increasing favorable view of this group as a whole. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
