Abstract: A 9 page research paper that investigates how film noir responded to McCarthyism. The writer argues that at the basis of both McCarthyism and film noir was the fear engendered by the invention of the atomic bomb. The writer outlines how several examples of film noir from the 50s inculcates the pervasive themes of secrecy, danger, pessimism and spies. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
