The conflicting relationship between tourism and environmental sustainability is one that has existed since man came to realize the degradation he has inflicted upon the land. When considering whether the behavior of tourists is respectful to the principles of sustainable tourism, one cannot ignore the blatant disregard people have when it comes to creating a symbiotic association between the environment upon which they travel and the extent to which this presence has caused near irreparable harm in the process.
