Abstract: 12 pages in length. Stars and celebrities hold significant power over contemporary culture in the way they act, what they say and the manner by which they are placed upon a social pedestal. That they may possess this distinction typically reserved for academics and other experts does not mean, however, they have earned it; indeed, far too much emphasis is placed upon the equation of fame and myriad trends in contemporary culture, such as heroism and body image.
