Abstract: 5 pages in length. Knowing how to help people who are in an emotionally trying state takes special skills that not everyone inherently possesses. Obtaining counseling skills in order to enhance one's work at a homeless shelter is both prudent and highly recommended to ensure the best possible outcome. Considering such issues as ethical framework for good practice in counseling, confidentiality within the setting of the homeless shelter and core conditions for counseling, it becomes apparent that helping the homeless means much more than merely providing a warm meal and a bed for the night.
