Abstract: This 10 page paper details the evolution of opera and in particular Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's contribution to the genre. Particular examples are given from Figaro, Don Giovanni and the Magic Flute. An indepth look at opera from its origins through the 18th century are given with examples. General characteristics of opera buffa, opera seria and singspiel are given. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
