The Role of Artists and Architects in Tribal Societies

Abstract: This is a 7 page paper discussing the roles of artists and architects in tribal societies. When studying tribal forms of art and architecture, researchers are able to determine what roles artists and architects within the societies played and what the significance of the art and architecture showed. In many ways, by studying the roles artists and architects played and still play within tribal societies, archaeologists can also determine which aspects of the culture are considered significant in the portrayal of tribal life. Largely, artists and architects maintained a unique status within the tribes as those who could interpret the important and influencing spiritual, ancestral, and historical factors with the society and accurately and artistically include them in the functional items or structures they made.
