Heroism and the Human Experience

Abstract: This is a 12 page paper discussing heroism, humanity including the examples given in the lives of Hiltgunt Zassenhaus, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Jimmy Carter. Heroism has many different classical and modern definitions but the most acceptable and all inclusive are those definitions which include the fusion of mind and body. The mind of a hero can recognize basic human values which are being ignored and feels the need to defend them against adversity. The body of a hero is the action element which separates heroes from the rest of society. Heroes create positive actions in defence of basic human values despite the inaction of those around them. Modern day examples of real heroes can be seen in the lives of: Hiltgunt Zassenhaus who at the age of seventeen refused to raise her hand and speak
