Abstract: 15 pages in length. The media shapes many of our views in society; the things we read and watch play an extremely important role on our perspectives on issues. One of the most heated issues that have caught the attention of the media within the last couple of years is that of the Mexican Mafia. Nicknamed 'La Eme' for the Spanish letter M, the Mexican Mafia has been portrayed as one of the toughest and most feared gangs in recent history, and the media has not fallen short on their duty to depict it as such. Formed in Texas back in 1984 by Heriberto Huerta as a means by which to defend Latino inmates from other prison predators, the Mexican Mafia has not given itself much reason to be presented as anything other than the brutal killing machine that it is. The writer discusses how legitimately the media portray La Eme. Bibliography lists 10 sources.
