The Use of Form and Light as Found in the Architecture of Le Corbusier, Maekawa, and Zumthor

Abstract: This is a 10 page paper discussing the use of form and light in the architectural works of Le Corbusier, Maekawa, and Zumthor. Le Corbusier was the first to use the ideas of different geometrical forms in his work and combined the forms of columns, spheres, cubes and prisms with unconventional support techniques and vertical light which created spaces that were flexible, open and had light effects. Maekawa adapted the techniques he learned from Le Corbusier to his designs in Japan and also incorporated some traditional Japanese elements to create similar effects.
