TOOTSIE, THE CROSS-DRESSER AND THE MALE GAZE

Abstract: This paper examines the theories of feminist writer Laura Mulvey and how they pertain to the male point of view when it comes to films, and analyses those theories against the cross-dressing movie Tootsie, which was released in 1982. Through comparing the plot of Tootsie with Mulvey's theories, the paper indicates that Tootsie corroborates the theory of "objects of the gaze."
