Edward Gibbon/Decline and Fall, chs. 15 & 16

Abstract: A 10 page summation of chapters 15 and 16 from Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. The wrier argues that the second volume of Gibbons' work (in which chapters 15 and 16 appear) is largely concerned with the age of Constantine, which is crucial to Gibbon's overall purpose. This was because the introduction of Christianity throughout the Roman Empire was the central event that, in Gibbon's view, brought about the turning-point that marked the downfall of Rome.
