A Proposed Research Study To Investigate the Effect of Music in Postoperative Pain Management

Abstract: An 8 page proposal for a research study designed to evaluate the effect of music in pain reduction in elderly patients. This paper asserts that physiologic, pathophysiologic, and psychosocial patient variables influence patient recovery and stresses that nurses and other medical personnel need to make provisions for each of these variables both before and after surgery. The author contends that music in the postoperative environment could be tremendously effective in meeting the goal of pain reduction. Details a comparative study among two groups of elderly patients which is designed to evaluate this contention. Bibliography lists 10 sources.
