Abstract: A 7 page paper. Protesters of globalization complain that it contributes to the destruction of local cultures and imposes not only American, but corporate values on the local populace. It seems that few consider the benefits of free trade and the manner in which it favors democracy over more controlling forms of government. While the philosophers thrash out the relative social value of free trade, economists can provide information that can establish cost-benefit data for analysis. The patterns are clear among open political systems in which individuals are free to become manufacturers and those manufacturers can choose to export the goods they make.
