The California Electricity Crisis

Abstract: 5 pages in length. Political manipulation and a blatant disregard for human life reside at the core of California's electricity crisis. While the current situation has wreaked havoc upon the state's economic and emotional standing, this is not the first time that energy consumption has triggered such a domino effect. The prefabricated idea that there was a natural energy shortage caused overwhelming alarm for Californians in 1996, inasmuch as Middle East suppliers held back millions of barrels of oil in order to manipulate their political power. Now, some five years later, California is once again at the mercy of oil producers who continue to capitalize upon the need for one of life's most precious commodities. The writer discusses other causes of and potential solutions for California's electricity crisis. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
