Abstract: A 5 page paper discussing the interplay of Death Instinct and Eros in this Freud work. Without question, Sigmund Freud made astounding contributions to the science of discovering the ways in which the human mind works, but one must wonder how dysfunctional the Father of Psychoanalysis truly was. Anyone who could say with conviction that 'Living is an eternal nuisance...to endure life remains the first duty of all living things' obviously has little or no happiness in his life, and that lack of happiness both in his personal life and in the lives of his patients Freud attributed to the progress of civilization.
