The Cultural Basis for the Development of Gothic Architecture

Abstract: A 15 page paper analyzing this pivotal period in art in terms of its relationship to the growing secularity of the society at the time. The paper looks in particular at the renovations of the Abbey at St. Denis, which added a Gothic choir to a Romanesque church, and the construction and later renovations to the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris.
