Abstract: A 5 page essay that examines the poem "Good People" by Maura Stanton. The writer argues that throughout the vast majority of human history and human experience, people have been tied to one specific place. Born into a culture, they lived their lives surrounded by a relatively small group of people to whom they were intimately connected by familial and social bonds. Those bonds have been broken in the modern world and set individuals, like Stanton's narrator, adrift in a world that has no anchors. Yet, in the final lines, there is a lingering hope that somewhere, somehow, connections between people still exist. No bibliographical information is included.
