Abstract: A 6 page research paper that investigates the purposes that spectacle fulfilled in the politics of ancient Rome. The writer argues that games were offered to the people for their support and that this was a reciprocal relationship that fitted the purposes of both parties very well from the first century B.C. to the end of the fourth century A.D.
