Termination Of A Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program: Social Worker Interaction

Abstract: 5 pages in length. One can readily argue that the process a social worker goes through when her session with a client is about to be terminated bears significant similarity to the separation between a parent and a child. Indeed, the role of a social worker is to nurture and rebuild, two integral components of the typical parent/child relationship. For those social workers who lead group rehabilitation clinics for substance abusers that last for several months at a time, the termination at the end of the session would be as emotionally difficult for the social worker as it is for each client.
