Screening Tool For Primary Care

Abstract: It would be expected that heavy drinking and alcohol abuse and, or, dependence among primary care patients would be reflective of or greater than the general population. A screening tool that would be of great benefit if included as part of the primary care process would be a questionnaire geared to detect abuse and, or, heavy consumption patterns. This 7 page paper argues that one such tool, the ten question AUDIT, can be reduced to three specific questions that pinpoint alcohol abuse and dependency and is recommended as a tool for use in the screening process for primary care practice. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
