'Gretel in Darkness'

Abstract: This 5 page report discusses the short (less than 20 lines) poem, 'Gretel in darkness.' As the poem develops, the reader senses both urgency and bitterness from Gretel with a great deal of frustration and bewilderment. Her brother, Hansel, appears to have forgotten what the two of them have gone through but she cannot forget that she killed a person. Ultimately, the poem may serve as an example of the difference response to self-preservation as experienced by women compared to men. No bibliography.
