Abstract: This 12 page paper considers this question of the interaction between music and culture discussing the influences and how one may be seen to influence the other before coming to an unusual conclusion. In discussing this various types of music are considered with attention played to the interpretation of music, the nature of a consumer society and the way in which music may be seen as a tool to be used.
