Emily Dickinson As A Transcendentalist

Abstract: A 6 page paper analyzing whether the famous nineteenth-century poet can actually be considered a transcendentalist. Looking at evidence presented in several of her poems, the writer argues that Dickinson would like to have been such, but many of her fears and obsessions rose from her Calvinist background. The paper uses five of her poems -- 'These are the days when birds come back', 'I heard a fly buzz when I died', 'Because I could not stop for death,' 'Further in summer than the birds', and 'Tell all the truth but tell it slant' to support its thesis. No critical sources are cited.
