John Dewey: Democracy in Education (1916)

Abstract: (6pp) The formation of a philosophy sounds like a major assignment, doesn't it? Yet each of us do that daily in the way that we live - that is our personal philosophy. John Dewey (1859 - 1952) took that a few steps farther and looked at the process, or the way, in which we as humans best learn, and then looked at that method in relationship to a teaching role and a school system. He believed that a democracy was the overall best environment for the methods he defines in Democracy in E ducation (1916).
