Abstract: A 5 page research paper that argues that during the presidencies of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson (the 1960s) represented a "revolutionary" period in the nation's history that opened up civil rights and civil liberties to more of the citizenry, with particular emphasis on the plight of African Americans prior to this period.
