Statement of Intent to Enter a Community Health and Epidemiology Program

Abstract: A 5 page paper discussing the state of public health and its future needs in relation to biostatistics and epidemiology, for the purpose of gaining admission into a graduate program. The paper includes statements published both currently and 10 years prior, illustrating that the need has not diminished in the decade between dates of publication. It also discusses changing demographics within the US and the dearth of research of recent years, while noting that the current trend toward globalization is not likely to diminish. This trend is important in public health because of the global transmission of organisms that formerly were limited to rather narrow regions, but behave very differently outside of those regions.
