Alewife Management And Ecology

Abstract: 10 pages in length. The water sources of late are clearly demonstrating the consequences of overwhelming pollution and encroachment by killing off a significant percentage of alewife, which, in turn, serves to threaten those species that depend upon the fish species as a primary food source. What is being done to correct this drastic situation is too little too late according to critics, who contend that the alewife population, once so plentiful that the only implement necessary to catch them was a spoon, struggles for survival against pollution and man's encroachment upon fast disappearing spawning grounds. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
